Guess the component...

I've been working on my old classic bike this winter. Can anyone guess the component from the photo?

Well those spiral splines don't look at all familiar, but judging from it's shape and the spokes in the background, I'd say it's the inside of a free-hub although of what make I have no idea. Campagnolo?

I'm going to go with a bottom bracket finishing tool.

I guess the spokes do give it away a bit. It's a Mailard Helicomatic hub, a French alternative to Shimano's Freehub Cassette built from 82 to 88 that never really took off! Nice bit of machining though!

It's on my 1984 Raleigh Record Sprint which I brought back from the UK this Winter. Anyone up for a classic ride this year?
