For all wondering where JOE is, i took him down to the 24hr Hot August Night mtb relay hoping to rekindal his love affair for 2 wheels. I think we may have been successful as Joe seam to have alot of fun. I think Joe has also discovered he may have a future in triathalons from the results of an 8k night run to finish a lap. Hope to see you back in full force in 2009 Joe.
Cheers
Sean

Knowing the Course

Post by Chapps »

There has been lots of discussion about the OSCC TT courses and of "Course" the Pro- cir.. is getting ready for the GIRO in a week or so with lots of Lance excitement. He was 3rd today in the GILA TT! I thought I would mention the importance of knowing the road you are racing on. We are lucky in the OSCC club to race certain tested courses several times in a season. These courses also remain the same from year to year allowing the rider to quickly re-learn their favorite sections or hills :) Knowing the course on a TT is easier then the regular road race. Due to the distance, and most being out and back it doesn't take long if you give yourself some extra time to drive the course in a car, or pre-ride the route during your warm-up. Of course your best results will come riding the course at race pace. Knowing what gear to be in, when to shift, drink or relax is key to the success of a TT. Having an idea about where the wind is coming from on any given night can also make for a fast TT. The pre-ride is great to gauge the wind and set up a pre-race plan. Any buddy remember ANNAN from a few years back... most hit the turnaround 2mins faster then ever before only to face a wall back. The more you know about the road you are racing the better your ride will be. Road kill, pot holes and rough sections are all distractions when they appear from the bars. When you know ahead of time where they are at they often serve as markers or motivators.
