NI CWG Riders Have Success in Smart Aero Skin Suits
Smart Aero Technology skin suits are being worn at the Commonwealth Games by Wendy Houvenaghel, David McCann and Michael Hutchinson. On Thursday McCann won a bronze medal in the team pursuit and on Friday Houvenaghel won a silver in the individual pursuit. They will be joined by Hutchinson on Wednesday in the time trial. Success in the Commonwealth Games for Smart Aero Technology Skin Suits
On Thursday 7th and Friday 8th October 2010, Wendy Houvenaghel and David McCann won medals at the Commonwealth Games wearing Smart Aero Technology suits.
The skin suits, developed by Smart Aero Technology in the Mercedes GP scale wind tunnel, have also been worn by Team HTC members this season, notably by Tony Martin in the World Championships last month where he clinched a bronze medal in the individual time trial despite having to stop for a puncture.
Simon Smart, Technical Director of Smart Aero Technology, known for his design of the Scott Plasma 3, Giant Trinity and more recently the new Scott FO1 road bike commented “Developing clothing was the next obvious step after the frame and wheels. We have seen fantastic gains with the suits that we have developed and look forward to making these available to the public later this year.”
Houvenaghel who won Silver in the women's pursuit and McCann, Bronze in the team pursuit, will wear Smart Aero Technology suits again next week for the road time trial, as will Michael Hutchinson, all cycling for Northern Ireland.
