On Sunday August 19th this summer hundreds of cyclists will hit the roads between Southampton and Port Elgin as participants in the first “Gran Fondo Lake Huron” to help raise much needed funds for the Saugeen Memorial Hospital Foundation; I will be one of them.
As a former Laboratory Technologist employed by Grey Bruce Health Services at the Owen Sound and Meaford sites, I really appreciate and am keenly aware of the constant need for hospitals to have the up-dated, specialised and highly technical equipment required by modern medicine in order to offer a first class service to the community it serves.
However as the Ministry of Health only provides, financially, for the operational services in our hospitals, the onus is on the community agencies such as the Saugeen Memorial Hospital Foundation to raise the necessary funds to provide for the most of the medical equipment required.
Gran Fondo Lake Huron (http://granfondolakehuron.ca) is a one day cycling event whereby cyclists choose to ride one of four distances (30, 70, 110 or 160 km) while seeking sponsors and raising funds for the local Saugeen Memorial Hospital.
I will be riding the 70 km event
I invite you to join my team by making a monetary donation to this worthy cause.
